          Diahann Carroll was born Carol Diann Johnson on July 17, 1935, in The Bronx, New York City.

        6. She was the daughter of John Johnson, a subway conductor, and Mabel Faulk Johnson, a nurse. The family moved to Harlem when she was an infant, where Carroll attended Music and Art High School, a prestigious institution that nurtured her early interest in the arts.

          Career Beginnings: Carroll began her career as a singer and model, participating in talent shows such as "Chance of a Lifetime" and working as a model for Ebony magazine.

          Her television debut came on “The Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts” show. Carroll's Broadway debut was in the musical "House of Flowers" in 1954, written by Truman Capote, and she quickly became known for her beauty, poise, and talent.
