He is a violinist and conductor born Simon Andrew Thomas Standage in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, who studied at Cambridge University and won a Harness Fellowship to study in New York City with Ivan Galamian.
He debuted in Wigmore Hall in and that same year became a founding member of The English Consort, where he was first violin until He also led the City of London Sinfonia, was a modern violinist for the English Chamber Orchestra, a co-founder of the Salomen Quartet and a guest performer with The Academy of Ancient Arts, and collaborated with Collegium Musicum Telemann and Haydn Sinfonietta.
In he co-founded Collegium Musicum 90 with the conductor Richard Hickox and with them has made numerous acclaimed recordings of composers such as Telemann, Vivaldi, Albinoni, Marcello amongst many others.
As a teacher he is a Professor of baroque violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London, teaches summer courses in Europe and the Un
