Gallen, earning a PhD in Economics.
Diplomatic Career
In 1980, Heusgen joined the diplomatic service of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). He held notable positions, including serving as personal secretary to the coordinator for German-French cooperation, Rainer Barzel, from 1988 to 1990.
